Pampered to Perfection | How to Treat Yourself!

Beauty, DIY, Fashion, Hauls, Lifestyle, Recipes, Reviews, Trends

With exciting changes that come with the new year, it’s crucial to dedicate time for yourself. Whether it’s indulging in a good book, trying a new recipe or splurging on some retail therapy- treat yourself!! Here are some of my favorite ways to relax and unwind in the midst of a hectic schedule.

Draw a bath, light a candle and enjoy- you deserve it!

Not sure where to start? Take a trip to Lush Cosmetics! Applying a Lush face mask makes me feel like a true diva. My current favorite is the cooling “Cupcake” mask. It smells sweet enough to eat and makes my skin feel better than ever. My favorite part is that it’s infused with spearmint, giving it a tingly and refreshing feel. Pop it in the fridge and apply it cold- you’ll thank me later!

If I decide to pamper myself, I go all out. Lighting a candle is one of the easiest ways to make your bathroom feel like a 5 star spa. My absolute favorite scent is “Mahogany Teakwood” from Bath and Body Works (it smells like cute boys, not kidding).

If the candle isn’t aromatherapy enough, these “Stress Relief” products will definitely do the trick. This Bath and Body Works duo smells incredible and its stress relieving power proves to certainly not be falsely advertised. If I’m not using a bath bomb, I absolutely love adding the eucalyptus tea body wash to my bubble baths. Followed by the body lotion, your skin will be in heaven.

I recently received this Liz Earle cleanser in my Birch Box and I’ve been in love! It definitely works within your pores, leaving your complexion dewy and bright. Not only does this help with breakouts, but it gives your skin an even glow. I recommend gently scrubbing it off with a hot cloth for best results.

To finish off my spa day, I absolutely adore spraying my face with this “Eau Thermale Avène” spring water. It immediately feels super soothing and refreshing when used after a cleanser. Not only does it cool my skin but the thermal water gives it a lasting soft and moisturized feel.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my favorite tips for pampering! If you try out any of these products be sure to let me know what you think in the comments below. How do you like to treat yourself? Wishing you a 2017 full of relaxation and rejuvenation!

What’s in My Beach Bag? | Island Necessities

Beauty, DIY, Fashion, Hauls, Lifestyle, Recipes, Reviews, Trends

Spring Break is upon us and the sunshine season is just a few months away! Here’s an inside source to my beach bag essentials and some tips to keep in mind as you replenish your vitamin sea!

What’s a day at the beach without a cute pair of sunnies? Sunglasses are definitely a vacation necessity for me, not only do they protect your eyes but they can be a huge fashion statement. I adore this pair of Dior dupes which I discussed in my last post (if you haven’t read it yet, check it out here!) My adorable case is from a local boutique but you may be able to find a similar one at Nordstrom.

A Good Read

The beach is a perfect spot to dive into a good book! I’m currently loving Bossypants by Tina Fey, it seriously never fails to make me laugh. This read is perfect for some light, seaside entertainment and I would definitely recommend it. What’s your favorite book right now? Let me know in the comments below- I love new suggestions!

An Underwater Camera

Cute photos are a MUST on any vacation but a sand/water damaged lens can definitely put a damper on any trip. That’s why I love taking my FujiFilm waterproof camera on my beachy adventures! Not only does it have a wrist strap for underwater exploring but it definitely prevents the anxieties of a ruined camera. I used this a ton on my recent vacation and it perfectly captured my snorkeling memories!

A Hat

Salty hair can get wild and a hat is definitely a beach necessity! Mine is from Vineyard Vines and it always comes in handy. It’s super important to protect your face from UV rays (and to look cute- both of which can be achieved with a hat!) If a ball cap isn’t your style, floppy sun hats are also adorable and will achieve the same fun, tropical look!

Sunscreen (duh!)

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had my fair share of harsh sunburns. If anything, sunscreen is surely an essential if you’re spending the day with your toes in the sand. I like Neutrogena sunblock because I find that it is gentle on the skin and doesn’t give off a greasy feel. For my face I apply the Ultra Sheer stick and the Ultimate Sport Spray is perfect for my body for I know it will stay on all day. With sunscreen in your beach bag you’ll look like a bronzed babe instead of a lobster…Don’t forget to reapply!

These definitely aren’t everyone’s style but I ADORE my white Birkenstocks. These sandals are perfect for long walks to the beach because they are super durable and comfortable- not to mention cute! Complementing a tan perfectly, the white style is awesome for Spring and Summer. Yay for Birks!

That’s it for my Beach Bag Essentials! I hope you had/have an amazing and safe Spring Break! What’s in your beach bag?

How to Have a Sweet Summer! | Berry Lemonade Popsicles

Beauty, DIY, Fashion, Hauls, Lifestyle, Recipes, Reviews, Trends

What’s a summer day by the pool without something cool and refreshing to go along with it?! Instead of simply drinking my favorite beverages I decided to incorporate them into a delicious ice pop! Here you will find how to make your very own strawberry lemonade, white cranberry and raspberry treats. Enjoy!

You will need:

  • A juice of your choice
    • I went with White Cran-peach from Ocean Spray, it’s not too sweet and has a super refreshing flavor.
  •  Lemonade
    • I chose to use a strawberry lemonade k-cup which I brewed with my Keurig and let chill in the refrigerator before adding to my pops.
    • Of course, you can use any pre-made lemonade of your choice or better yet, make your own!
  • Fresh Berries for flavor and decoration
    • I chose raspberries because they are just so pretty!
  • Popsicle molds
    • If you don’t have these handy, they can be substituted by using small cups (like Dixie cups) and popsicle sticks.

What to Do:

  • I was hoping to create a layered look on my ice pops so first, I poured my lemonade into the molds and let them sit in the freezer for about 2 hours until the consistency was no longer slushy.
  • After that I simply poured my White Cran-peach juice on top, which gave the pops a fun “color-blocking” look.
  • Before placing the ice pops back in the freezer I cut some raspberries into small pieces and placed them into my mixture.
    • This later left the pops looking super cute and tasting extra delicious!

I definitely recommend making your own DIY ice pops! They can be so easily tailored to the flavor preferences of you and your friends. Perfect for mid-summer barbecues and pool days, I can’t wait to make more of these! If you end up making your own summer treats like these, leave a comment below and let me know what flavors you chose to combine!

Summer Blues | DIY Boyfriend Jeans

Beauty, DIY, Fashion, Hauls, Lifestyle, Recipes, Reviews, Trends

Who needs a boyfriend when you can wear boyfriend jeans?! Really though, these distressed denim pants are so trendy at the moment and can truly transform an outfit. Versatile and comfortable, boyfriend jeans can give  a simple look an edgy twist. Not to mention they’re super easy to make yourself! Realizing this, I geared up with a pair of scissors and decided to convert some old jeans from drab to fab (that was cheesy but I couldn’t resist) in a matter of minutes. Here you will find how to create your very own boyfriend jeans… Enjoy!

What you will need:

In order to complete this super simple DIY you will only need a few items that can be found around the house!

  • Jeans (pretty obvious)- I thrifted mine from my local Goodwill for just $5, as this was my first time distressing, the thrift store was a great resource for finding inexpensive pieces to DIY.
  • Scissors- fabric scissors would be easiest if you have them however office scissors work just fine.
  • Tweezers
  • A pencil (or really any writing utensil of your choice!)

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 preset

Now that you have your materials, follow these easy steps and you will have yourself a pair of trendy, statement jeans!

  • Step 1: First, try on your jeans and use a pencil to mark exactly how wide and long you would like your distressed areas to be.
  • Step 2: Next, use your scissors to cut horizontal lines about a half inch to an inch and a half apart, depending on how large you would like your holes to be.
    • Hint: Make sure you are only cutting through ONE layer of the pants!
  • Step 3: After that, use your tweezers to pull out the individual fraying strands of denim you have created. This will gradually begin to reveal white, distressed areas.
    •  This step can be quite tedious, but stick to it, you will be happily surprised with the outcome!

  • Step 4: Continue with the previous step until you reach your desired amount of fraying.
    • Hint: if you are looking for a less geometrical shape in your hole, make the lines you cut in “Step 2” unevenly sized to avoid a boxy look.
    • Throwing your jeans in the wash immediately after distressing will also create a more frayed, edgy style.

After following these steps, not only will you have your very own boyfriend jeans, but the pride to say you made them yourself!

Here are my finished pants! In addition to rolling the bottoms, I decided to create three holes, one on the thigh, knee and lower shin. I just love pairing my boyfriend jeans with my white Birkenstocks (they’re so ugly they’re cute!) for an extra fun and edgy look. I am so happy with how my jeans came out and would definitely recommend trying this DIY to spice up some old denim! If you do try it out or have any other DIYs you would like me to cover, leave a comment down below!

Peaceful Primping & Pampering | At Home SPA DAY Essentials

Beauty, Fashion, Hauls, Lifestyle, Recipes, Reviews, Trends

These last few steps of the school year can get pretty stressful, as most of us have final exams right around the corner. Let’s be real here, who has the time or energy to make it to the spa? Definitely not me. Whether you are looking for some time to unwind or battling the stress of studying, everyone deserves a summer spa day! Here are a few of my best tips and favorite products for at-home pampering and relaxation…Enjoy!

Take a bath! If you’ve been following my blog for a while now you will know that over these past few months I have become an avid “bather” (that sounds odd but you know what I mean!) In order to have the perfect spa day I would definitely recommend taking a hot bath. I always pop in a Lush product and let the magic work itself!

Can’t forget your reading material! Here I am digging into Seventeen, with the very handsome, Ansel Elgort on the cover. When taking a bath, really try to refrain from using your phone. Not only could you drop your precious baby in the water, but it’s important to take some time to your own thoughts and not constantly be scrolling through Instagram. Don’t get me wrong, I still blast my favorite calming songs, and have mini photoshoots with my lush products…they are just so darn cute!

Click here for my favorite LUSH products!

While you are soaking in the relaxation in your hot bath, it’s the perfect time for a hair mask! This Macadamia Nourishing Moisture Masque has recently become my new favorite. Apply once a week in your hair from root to tip and be amazed at the difference you will see. I like to leave my mask in for about 10 minutes until combing through and thoroughly rinsing my hair. After just a few weeks, I feel as though my hair is softer and more hydrated. Because it should not be used too regularly, this product is perfect for your next at-home spa day!

What would a pamper session be without a manicure?! Painting my nails is definitely a must if I have some time to myself. Here I am sporting Essie’s, Tying the Knotie. This versatile shade is just the perfect baby pink and an awesome transition shade into bright summer nail colors.

Last but certainly not least, try out a mud mask! I recently received this Borghese Fango Purificante mask in my Birch Box and it’s AMAZING. Apply a thick layer of the product to your face (or body), and proceed to send scary photos to your friends as you will most likely look like a zombie. Subsequent to this, wait for the mask to dry and lightly scrub it off with cool water and a washcloth. After using the product I felt immediate results. Not only did the size of my pores minimize profusely but my face felt incredibly soft. I would definitely recommend this product for all skin types for it is the perfect mask to implement into your skincare routine and of course your spa day!

Now that you have your spa day agenda, let the relaxation commence! If you try out any of these products let me know what you thought in the comments. Also, leave your favorite pampering essentials! Wishing the best to those taking final exams soon, and anyone else in need of a spa day.

Magnificent Mangos & Scrumptious Strawberries || Summer Smoothie Recipe

Beauty, Fashion, Hauls, Lifestyle, Recipes, Reviews, Trends

With this wonderful warm weather finally greeting the East Coast, I have been feeling way more motivated to get active and live a generally healthier life! I’ll be the first to say I have my fair share of ice cream and other treats, but I am starting to realize just how different I can feel with just a few adjustments to my dietary habits and daily routine (still never giving up ice cream though). This awesome mango & strawberry smoothie is a recipe I put together with some items in my fridge and it has become one of my new favorite snacks. Let me know in the comments if you would like more healthy recipes and fitness hacks that I have been incorporating into my everyday life. I hope you like this recipe and try it out yourself. Enjoy!

For this recipe you will need:

  • Naked Juice (about 1 cup)- mine is in the “power-c machine flavor.” I have never been able to get myself to try the green concoctions associated with the “juice cleanse trend” but I tried this flavor for the first time and it is seriously amazing! This particular juice includes:

All in one drink! If you don’t have time to make the whole smoothie, just drinking this juice is the perfect pick me up due to all of its Vitamin C benefits!

In addition to your Naked Juice, you will need:

  • About 4 large strawberries, washed
  • Vanilla yogurt- Mine is the Stonyfield brand.
    • You can also use strawberry yogurt or whatever your favorite flavor is, for a twist!
  • About 1/2 cup of frozen mango chunks
    • You can use fresh cut mango if preferred, if so you will definitely want to include a few extra ice cubes.
  • 2-3 ice cubes

Next you will obviously want to blend it all up! I use this awesome little Blend’N Go blender from the Oster brand. The travel cup itself screws into the base to act as the blender- this makes it super easy to make a smoothie on the run, especially for breakfast. If I’m not going anywhere however, I like to pour my smoothie into a little mason jar- mainly because it’s adorable (just think of all the Instagram opportunities) but it’s also great for storage and refrigeration (I wouldn’t save your smoothie for more than a day or two- that could get nasty).

So why would you want to make this smoothie when you can have 5 cookies instead? Well my friend, although 5 cookies would be delicious (and a bit gluttonous)- do they give you the same amazing benefits as this incredible smoothie? Heck no! This smoothie alone will give you enough Vitamin C to last the whole day, with the energy to run a mile (or stay awake at least)! In addition to this, you skin will definitely thank you.

Vitamin C has nutrients that act as a natural cure in skin related problems. By consuming fruits such as those in this recipe, you might find your skin with a natural glow. Vitamin C also aids in wrinkle and disease prevention- so that’s always cool! Instead of investing in an expensive Vitamin C infused moisturizer, try including fruits such as oranges, mangos, peaches and more into your diet, you will definitely see a difference!

I hope you enjoyed this post and try out my summer smoothie recipe for yourself. You can sit by the pool and get your Vitamin C intake from your smoothie filled mason jar and look cute doing it (once again Instagram opportunities)!

Also- stay tuned for an upcoming posts about my HOLY GRAIL makeup products!

Thanks for reading & have a wonderful (Vitamin C filled) weekend!

Easy Easter Eats! | Carrot Cake Cupcakes

Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle, Recipes, Reviews, Trends

Spring is finally upon us! With Easter right around the corner and Passover in full swing I thought, what else than to do an adorable, springy recipe that can be shared with family and friends! Whether they be a holiday favorite around your dinner table or simply a midnight snack- these spring chick cupcakes are sure to be a hit, as they definitely were in my house! I wish you the best of luck on your dessert endeavor (you won’t even need luck-this recipe is seriously so simple.) Enjoy!

For these scrumptious treats you will need…

Carrot Cake cupcakes:

  • 1 1/3 cups (175 grams) of all-purposeflour
  • 1 teaspoonbaking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml)walnuts, chopped
  • 2 largeeggs
  • 2/3 cup (135 grams) granulated whitesugar
  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) vegetable, safflower, corn, or canola oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) unsweetened applesauce (or grated apple or crushed pineapple)
  • 1 1/3 cups (320 ml) finely grated raw carrots

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 1/4 cup (55 grams) butter, room temperature
  • 4 ounces (115 grams) cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 1/4 cups (250 grams) confectioners’ (powdered or icing) sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Spring Chick Decorations

  • About 24 chocolate chips
  • About 1 cup of shredded coconut
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Carrot or candy corn

To make your cupcakes…

(General recipe courtesy of Joy of Baking)

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and place rack in center of oven. Then, grease your muffin pan with a nonstick spray or line it with paper liners (which I prefer because they add an adorable spring touch!)- This recipe makes about 12 cupcakes.

After this, whisk together (in a large bowl) the flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. I opted not to, but at this time you could also fold chopped nuts or cranberries into your mix.

In another large bowl, whisk the eggs until lightly beaten. Next, mix in the sugar, oil, and vanilla extract until the batter has thickened slightly. Fold in the applesauce and grated carrots. Then fold this mixture into the dry flour mixture until evenly incorporated. Evenly fill the 12 muffin cups with the batter and bake about 20 – 23 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven, place on a wire rack, and let cool completely before adding the delicious frosting.

Now onto the frosting!

With an electric or hand mixer- beat the butter and cream cheese until very smooth and creamy. Then, add the powdered sugar and beat until fully incorporated. Next, add the vanilla extract. You can then add more confectioners’ sugar if needed. Keep in mind that after frosting these cupcakes they must be kept in the refrigerator due to the cream cheese!

How to make your treats even more tempting…

To make your delicious cupcakes represent little spring chicks follow these steps! First, I piped the cream cheese frosting onto my treats, gently smoothing the tops with a butter knife to leave a flat surface to decorate on. Next, I took about a cup of shredded coconut and put it in a small ziplock bag along with about 5 drops of yellow food coloring. I zipped up the bag and shook it until the dye was evenly incorporated and the coconut was a lovely shade of spring chick! After this I sprinkled it onto the frosted cakes (gently pressing as I went to ensure each cupcake would remain coated) Following this, I pushed two chocolate chips into each cupcake to represent eyes. My final step was to include the beaks, I used some extra, fresh carrot from the cake recipe and cut it into small triangles but candy corn would work perfectly as well. Finally, admire your adorable cupcakes and pat yourself on the back- you’re basically a professional now! Enjoy (and maybe share) accordingly…

I would definitely recommend making this easy recipe at home! The cupcakes came out adorably and they tasted incredible! If you are a fan of carrot cake, this recipe will delight you! Not only was the cake extremely flavorful and moist but the frosting was light and creamy… quite enjoyable! This treat is fun and simple to bake and will make the perfect addition to any holiday meal or spring afternoon! Enjoy!!!
