Not only is New York City stunning for its famous sights, incredible architecture and overwhelming culture, but simply roaming the busy streets can be as intriguing as visiting another one of its museums. The diversity in style that one can observe whilst walking a few blocks is so genuinely beautiful. From leather pants, to flowing dreadlocks, to outfits made entirely of a single pastel color-the various aspects of style can be so inspiring and exciting. This week I took a day trip into the city and decided to photograph my look (sorry to disappoint but it does not involve dreadlocks nor monochrome pastels).
It’s NOT Spring: Although spring is (supposedly) approaching, the East Coast remains frigid as ever. I decided that I might as well incorporate my favorite winter style into my outfit because with warm weather will come a plethora of new trends. Some trends this season were loose bohemian knits, cool toned outfits and flannel prints. As you will see I utilized several of these aspects into my outfit of the day.
What I wore: I went for a very casual, grunge look by incorporating layered, loose basics. My comfortable, flowy top is from a local boutique, however there are similar basics sold at Brandy Melville. As for bottoms, I styled a high waisted, structured pant with gold accented pockets from American Apparel. For a pop of color, I tied a flannel from Urban around my waist- this also came in handy when it got chillier throughout the day and I could put it on, creating a layered look. I styled this outfit with some classic black booties (not pictured) to tie it all together.
Why bralettes are extremely important: I am in LOVE with bralettes because they are the perfect addition of color and texture to any simple outfit. Although some can be pricey, I invested in this aqua one from Free People and have been wearing it non-stop since. You can really dress up this comfortable statement with a little black dress or in a more casual sense as I did. If you don’t already own one, I would definitely recommend purchasing a bralette, as mine has become a staple in my wardrobe.
Notable Necklaces: I purchased my set of necklaces from Urban Outfitters and just as the bralette does, layered necklaces can really alter an outfit. I’ve been really into gold accessories lately and feel that this combination of various lengthened and textured necklaces can be styled in many ways. The shortest necklace is a very simple bead strung on a black cord- resembling the choker trend that was incredibly popular this summer. The next necklace is a simple lotus flower and I feel that the length is perfect and can be styled alone or with other pieces, as photographed. My third necklace is a “Hamsa” hand which is supposed to serve as “protection from evil” (in reality I just thought it was really cute!) I have been in love with various lengthened necklaces because they can be featured individually or paired to create awesome looks.
Sunnies: I know I’m killing you with the food photos, but what would a trip to the city be without a picture of my treat (I am a teenage girl after all). Anyway, this mouth watering photo of my ice cream sandwich from TMC features my new favorite sunglasses. Although it may have been raining and freezing weather I couldn’t resist wearing my new shades (yes, I’m THAT girl) from Urban Outfitters (see a pattern here?) The perfect pair of sunnies can really pull a look together! With warm weather (supposedly) approaching I would definitely recommend looking for your next pair of shades at Urban because they are all incredibly cute and fairly inexpensive. Also, you should definitely stop by The Meatball Shop if you happen to be in the city- you can pick up one of these ice cream sandwiches because let me tell you it was incredible.
